I no longer surf with illness but I surfed for about 40? Yrs. In bigger surf I found if you were in a bad position or come up from a bad wipe I use to laugh and it does work. I found out laughing or smiling and meaning it released a feel good chemical which sorry I cannot remember it's name. It really works to lower fear to do that as your seeing the light sight of a bad situation instead of catastrophising. Remember in double overhead a bad hold down is only going to be at most 10 seconds if that. That is nothing also never use big powerful muscles in the upper legs, chews oxygen. That is situation dependent sometimes you have too.

Just stop it. Surfskate on a pump track is fun by itself. You don't need to surf. I surfed all my life in California and Hawaii. Just looked me up at the north side of the pier in Huntington Beach.
